With its ancient history and rich culture Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan has made significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijan Enlightenment and book culture. it is clear from the history in the Middle Ages the mosques in Nakhchivan was created libraries to assist trainings, in 1837 in the Russian-Tatar school which was opened in Nakhchivan was created first library. The private libraries of the well-known intellectuals have made specific role in the development of the book culture, the private libraries of Eynalibey Sultanov, Bahruz Kangarli, Mirzalibey Bektashi, Shahbazaga Kangarli, Rza Tahmasib and other intellectuals’ have served to the people’s enlightenment.
Since the beginning of the last century,as well as other regions of Azerbaijan,in Nakhchivan launched public libraries and reading-rooms and in 1922 Nakhchivan City Library was created by the People’s Commissariat of Enlightenment, in 1930 in the base of this library was established The Library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. In order to increase the interest to the book, in 1933 at the Republic Library was arranged reading-room, mobile library which organised by the library covered as well as Nakhchivan and other regions. In 1953 Library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic has been named by the founder of historical novel genre in Azerbaijan literature and a great writer Mammad Said Ordubadi.
In 2007 The Library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named by M.S.Ordubadi has been renovated and powered by computers has been given to use.
In the library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named by M.S.Ordubadi there are examples of literatures in Azerbaijan, Russian, Turkish, English, German, French, Persian and other languages.
In recent years the cultural growth of the Rutonomous Republic was impact on libraries, the libraries in the Autonomous Republic including The Library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named after M.S.Ordubadi is covered with care by the state.
The Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic signed a resolution “about the 90th anniversary of the library of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named after M.S.Ordubadi” on 19 April 2012.
In accordance with paragraph 3 of the “Action Plan” approved by the order The Electron Library was created.
